Many of those most distinguished for musical talents in this part of the country, some time since, formed them-selves into a Society, by the name of the 'Hampshire Musical Society; the good effects which have resulted from this association, are too apparent not to be acknowledged by all in this vicinity. That this Society may derive advantages from individuals who live too remote for a personal attendance, and that society at large may reap the advantages of the united labours of the whole, it has been thought convenient to make this plan more extensive, by printing a quarterly Magazine: And all Masters and Composers of music, are requested to aid the undertaking, by furnishing productions suitable for a work of this kind.-The printer by particular desire, issued proposals for the Magazine, and, relying on the aid of the Society, has undertaken the publication, and the public may be assured that no efforts on his part shall be wanting to make it a valuable work. ´Our Patrons will doubtless recollect, that the publication of the Musical Magazine, was begun under rather unfavorable circumstances, the novelty of the undertaking, together with other almost insurmountable obstacles, rendered the prospect dubious. The encouragement which we have received, however, if not equal to our most sanguine expectations, has, at least, been such as to induce us to continue the work. [New par.] We return our sincere thanks to those gentlemen who, by their productions, have added to the merit of the work, and humbly request them to continue their favors. [New par] In compliance with the advice of a number of our friends, together with our own. conviction of the utility of the alteration, the Magazine will, in future, be published semiannually, consequently the next number will be ready for delivery on the first of Jan, next.
