JOHN POOR

John Poor (b. Plaistow, N.H., 8 July 1752; d. York Haven, Pa., 5 Dec. 1829) was a school-teacher who graduated from Harvard in 1775. He moved to Philadelphia from New Hampshire in 1784, founded the Young Ladies' Academy there in 1787, and ran it until about 1809. In his later years he lived in New Hope, Pennsylvania, moving in 1827 to York Haven. He was a Presbyterian.
