Variations in 19th century Sacred Harp printings
The 1st and 2nd printings of the 4th edition of the Sacred Harp were printed in Philadelphia. The 3rd, 4th and 5th printings are from Atlanta. SH 150 Spiritual Sailor is labeled as shown below in the Philadelphia printings. However, the title is missing from all of the Atlanta printings.
Songs were added to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd additions of the Sacred Harp by adding appendices. Throughout that 25-year period, each song retained its specific page. In the 4th edition, songs were removed and substitutes inserted. These songs can be identified by the font change of the bass or F clef.
