NEHEMIAH SHUMWAY

Nehemiah Shumway (b. Oxford, Mass., 26 Aug. 1761; d. Freehold, New Jersey, July 1843) was a composer, teacher, and farmer. He graduated from Rhode Island College in 1790, became principal of Freehold (New Jersey) Academy, later lived in Schenectady and Albany, New York, then (from 1820) in Jefferson County, New York, before returning to Freehold.
